Paul is an experienced commercial litigator who represents businesses, financial services companies, investors, and high-profile individuals, in a variety of civil litigations and regulatory matters, from pre-dispute resolution through trial and appeals.

During Paul’s twenty-five years of practice, his clients have included education entrepreneur Chris Whittle, rapper Ja Rule, boxing promoter Don King, and executives and partners at Fortune 100 companies, bulge bracket banks, and AmLaw 100 law firms, and a state insurance commissioner, as well as a wide array of financial firms.  He has been adverse to a similar array of large and small law firms, businesses, and individuals.  Paul also served as special litigation counsel to the Creditors’ Committee of the Estate of Dreier LLP, as defense counsel in a $300 million suit brought by Apollo Global Management, as plaintiff’s counsel in a $150 million derivative suite, and as counsel in the first federal suit brought by the New York Department of Financial Services under the Dodd-Frank Act.

Prior to founding Kirsch & Niehaus, Paul was the founding member of Niehaus LLP, and previously worked at Curtis, Mallet-Prevost, Colt & Mosle LLP, and Arkin Kaplan Rice LLP.  He received his undergraduate degree from Princeton University, majoring in public and international affairs at the Woodrow Wilson School, and received his J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School, where he served as the Associate Editor of the University of Chicago Legal Forum, and was awarded the Karl Llewellyn Award for Excellence in Appellate Advocacy.
